Overview

What activity amendment involves

As a business grows, its original licensed activities often no longer match what it actually does, a consultancy that starts trading goods, a retailer adding e-commerce, a service company adding a regulated activity. An activity amendment updates your trade license to reflect the real scope of your business.

Adding certain activities can trigger a different license category (professional to commercial, for example) or require a sector-regulator approval, we confirm the knock-on effects before filing, not after.

  • Activity code review against your current license category
  • Regulator approval coordination, where a new activity requires one
  • Amendment application submission
  • Updated license and Chamber of Commerce record
  • Notification to your bank and other linked authorities, where relevant

Benefits

Why amend rather than start a new license

Faster than re-incorporation

Amending an existing license is quicker and cheaper than closing one company and opening another.

Keep your trading history

Your establishment card, bank accounts and contracts stay linked to the same legal entity.

Category conflicts caught early

We flag if a new activity would force a license-category change before you file, not after rejection.

Right-sized to your business

Your license finally matches what you actually do, reducing compliance risk at renewal or audit.

Works across authorities

The same process applies whether you’re licensed with DED or a free zone.

No new capital requirement

In most cases, amending activities does not require a fresh capital contribution.

Who this is for. Businesses that have outgrown their original licensed activities, are adding a new revenue line, or need to formally register an activity they have already started operating.

Requirements & Process

What you’ll need, and how we run it

Documents & eligibility

The file is light, most of the work is confirming whether the new activity needs a regulator approval before the amendment can be filed.

  • Current trade license copy
  • Memorandum of Association, if the amendment changes activity scope materially
  • A clear description of the activity being added, removed or changed
  • Passport and Emirates ID copies of shareholders and the manager
  • Regulator approval or exemption confirmation, for newly regulated activities
  • Board resolution approving the amendment, where a shareholder is a company

Additional documents may be required depending on the specific activity change and licensing authority. We confirm the exact list for your case before any fee is paid.

How it works

The 4-stage process

Straightforward amendments typically complete within three to seven working days. Activities needing regulator approval take longer.

StageWhat happensTypical time
01. Activity reviewWe check the new activity against your current license category and flag any regulator approval it needs.1 working day
02. Regulator approval, if requiredWhere the activity needs sector-regulator sign-off, we coordinate that before filing the amendment.3–10 working days, if applicable
03. Amendment filingThe amendment application is submitted with all supporting documentation.1–2 working days
04. Updated license issuanceThe amended trade license is issued and your Chamber of Commerce record updated.1–2 working days
